Eight Tips To Get Your Yard back On Track After a Rough Denver Winter

After months of snow and cold, your lawn can certainly take a beating. You might be looking at your lawn wondering, what am I to do? Getting your lawn back on track doesn’t have to be difficult or overwhelming. Start with our eight tips to get your yard prepped for spring and back in shape in no time. Then give Wild Irishman landscaping a call, we can help you take it to the next level.

1. Use a rake:

Rake through your yard to remove small debris, sticks, and other eyesores that have accumulated during the winter.  Starting with a clean lawn is the key to successfully revitalizing your lawn for the warm months.

2. Check lawn fixtures:

Check all lawn fixtures, gutters, and faucets to ensure that everything is working as it should be and no repairs are needed. Minor repairs on gutters, and other lawn fixtures tend to be minor and typically won’t break your bank.

3. Check your hoses:

Sturdy hoses are essential for lawn care during the warmer months, be sure your hoses are free of flaws and the correct length for what you will need for watering.

4. Clear out weeds:

Spend time removing any weeds in your garden beds or in the lawn, and dispose of them in a compost pile.

Wait? Compost Pile?
If you don’t have a compost pile, no problem. By layering carbon-rich materials and nitrogen materials in a three to one ratio, you can generate your own compost pile. Composting can help to enrich the soil, retain moisture, and help to provide plants with additional nutrients.

5. Lawn mower maintenance:

Replace/sharpen the blade of your lawn mower, and take care of any additional maintenance that might need completed prior to using.

6. Attract birds:

Install bird feeders or baths in your yard - birds can consume over 1,000 bugs per day. Birds can also help to pollinate flowers, increase your curb appeal, and increase house value.

7. Avoid Fertilizer:

Avoid using any fertilizer on your yard at first, you should wait until after your first lawn mow to do so. We can help you with determining how much fertilizer to use, what fertilizer to use, and when to use it. We are always here to help!

8. Your first mow:

When mowing for the first time, avoid mowing your grass too short. It can be tempting to create a shorter mow with your grass, but by doing so the grass won’t maintain moisture or the nutrients needed to grow.
