Landscaping tips for summer

July 17, 2019

Landscaping is essential for beautiful curb appeal, but it can be intimidating! From planting zones, to watering requirements, buying plants can be overwhelming and often times confusing. Remember, while we can provide you some of the best tips for Denver landscaping, you are always welcome to contact us with any additional questions. As your Denver landscaping company, we can help you with general plant care, tree planting, and general design. Here are our four best tips for plant care:

Lighting
Buy plants that will fit your lighting. Whether it is indoor or outdoor, you need to buy a plant that will get the necessary light for growth, but not too much! For example, hostas grow extraordinarily well in shaded areas, but will burn and die in direct sunlight. When you purchase your plants, they will almost always say on the tag what the light requirements are and if they don’t be sure to ask.

Watering
Another important thing to keep in mind is the watering requirements. While you want to be sure your plant has plenty of water, it’s always better to underwater than overwater. If you overwater the plants, their roots can actually rot. A good way to tell is always check the soil moisture level. If you touch the soil and it feels damp still, you don’t need to water your plant. Another fun fact? Warm water actually absorbs better than cold water when it comes to watering plants.

Fertilizers
This can cause controversy, but we recommend skipping the fertilizers when it comes to growing your plants, particularly if you decide to have your plants living indoors. Fertilizers can be dangerous to ingest, and if you are unsure of how to properly use it - you can ultimately kill your plants. If you have fertilized plants in the house, with pets or little ones, it can do serious damage. Always consider what you are putting on your plants before you do!

TLC
Make sure your plants outdoors are getting some quality TLC - which might require some extra work from you. When it comes to giving your plants some TLC, make sure you weed the areas surrounding the plants but also prune plants that need to be pruned. If you notice your plants are struggling in the area they are in, that’s okay - just move them to a more suitable area! Your plants will tell you what’s going on through their color and perkiness.
