Denver Landscaper Shares How to Care for Your Synthetic Grass

June 10, 2020

Nothing makes an impression quite like a beautiful lawn. While it is possible to incorporate natural grass into your Denver landscape design, synthetic grass can be a better alternative. It’s low-maintenance and looks great year-round. Though you won’t have to mow it every week during the spring and summer, you will still need to show it a little TLC every now and then. Don’t worry—it’s simple. Here’s what you need to do to keep your synthetic grass looking like-new.

Spray It Down
Synthetic grass has individual blades, just like natural lawns. Those blades can easily collect dust and dirt when the winds kick up along the Front Range. Since you’re not watering it regularly, the dust won’t wash off easily. You’ll need to take matters into your own hands. Grab your garden hose with a spray nozzle attachment and spray down the synthetic grass. This will get rid of most of the dust quickly and easily.

Sweep Regularly
Though spraying your lawn down will get rid of dust, it’s not going to be enough to get rid of larger clumps of debris or stuck on mud. You’ll need to sweep the turf at least once a month. Grab a stiff-bristled broom and sweep against the grain of the turf. Work your way from the area of the lawn closest to your house toward the rest of the yard so the dirt has a place to go.

Pay Attention to Where Your Pets Do Their Business
If you have pets that regularly use the yard and do their business on the synthetic grass, you’ll want to clean those areas at least once a week. Pick up any poop with a pooper scooper or poo bag and dispose of it properly. Then, rinse down the area thoroughly with your garden hose. You don’t need to use any detergent in most cases. However, if you start to smell urine residue, apply a turf neutralizer to get rid of the odor.

Wash Away Tough Stains
Your artificial lawn is meant to be used daily, just like natural grass. This means it’s designed to stand up to regular wear and tear. But stains can and will happen. After all, what’s the fun of having a lawn if you can’t let your kids play on it or host a family barbeque out back? Walk the area and look for stains that may have popped up over time. Make a note of where they are and try rinsing them away. If water alone doesn’t do the trick, add a mild soap (something that won’t damage your living plants) to warm water and scrub the buildup away. This should be enough to get rid of any buildup.
