How to Get the Most Out of Your Denver Outdoor Lighting This Fall

October 29, 2020

Fall is in full swing and though the leaves are starting to drop, that doesn’t mean your Denver landscape design can’t be just as eye-catching. It just means you need to think outside the box and find new ways to draw the eye. For most homes, paying attention to your outdoor lighting fixtures is the best way to get the job done right. Try these tips on your property to maximize the impact your lighting has during the cooler months.

Inspect Each Fixture

Before the second hard freeze (hello, freak snowstorm in September), inspect each light fixture on your property for damage. Check the housing for cracks or loose screws. If there are any visible wires running to the fixtures, make sure the housing is still in good condition. If you notice any damage, you may need to replace the fixtures with new models if you want your landscape’s lighting to look as impactful as possible.

Replace Old or Burned Out Bulbs

Take a look at the light bulbs in each fixture. Since they’re constantly exposed to changing weather conditions, it’s normal for them to start to look dingy or burn out entirely in a matter of months if you’re not careful. If possible, wipe away the dirt with a microfiber cloth. If the bulb is burned out or the protective casing is stained beyond cleaning, replace the bulbs entirely. Keep in mind that it might be best to replace them with LED bulbs whenever possible. These use less electricity and put out less heat, keeping your plants safe from heat damage and scorch.

Use the Fixtures to Decorate Your Yard

If you think that your landscape lighting has to be boring, nothing could be further from the truth. You can actually use your outdoor light fixtures to create a more dynamic look and decorate for the holiday season. All you need are some colorful light bulbs. Most hardware stores have outdoor light bulbs encased on colorful housings for different seasons. Add orange and purple lights for Halloween. Decorate with red and green or blue and white bulbs for the winter holidays. All it takes is a little creativity, but once you install the bulbs, they’ll add beautiful flair to your property.

Supplement With String Lights

Outdoor lighting doesn’t just have to come from permanently installed fixtures. In fact, you can always supplement the existing lighting design with decorative string lights. Hang them around your backyard’s patio or outdoor living area for added warmth and brightness. Hire a professional to install holiday lights on your trees that will stand up to the wind and weather.

Give Your Lighting the TLC It Deserves

Landscape lighting can make your property look more appealing at all times. Keep these tips in mind and you’ll be able to make your yard festive, fun, and beautiful well into the cooler months.
