How to Clean Patio Pavers in Your Denver Landscape Design

Your patio and walkways do more for your yard than you think. They guide the eye and help you draw attention away from features you don’t want to highlight. They give you a safe and steady place to walk, lounge, and relax, and expand your home’s living area into the outdoors. But when they’re dirty, dingy, or otherwise look worn down, they can detract from your Denver landscaping has on guests and visitors. Luckily, they’re relatively easy to clean. You just need to know where to start. Here are a few tried-and-true methods that will get your pavers looking like-new in no time.

Reach for Your Dish Soap

Believe it or not, dish soap is one of the most effective ways to get rid of mildew, algae, and stains on most patio pavers. Fill a bucket with warm water and add a generous squirt of dish soap to the mix. Stir it together and, with a stiff, nylon-bristled scrub brush, work the dirt and grime away from the surface of your pavers. Rinse the stones with clean water when you’re done and your patio should look like new.

Use Vinegar

White vinegar has long been touted as a safe, natural all-purpose household cleaner, but did you know that you can use it on your pavers? You can! And it’s especially great for really dirty stones as it can power through most gunk and grime quickly. Add equal parts white vinegar and water to a bucket or clean milk jug and pour the solution over the stones. Let it sit for about an hour and finish cleaning the stones with the same dish soap and water technique described above.

Pressure Wash the Stones

Pressure washing is one of the fastest and most effective ways to get rid of buildup on your patio, walkways, and even your deck. But it’s not something you should do lightly or often. The force of the water can cause the pavers to wear down more quickly than they otherwise would. Worse, it can weaken any grout between the stones.

That said, if you can’t remember the last time you cleaned your pavers, you should be fine to use a pressure washer. Rent one from your local hardware store and use it to blast away the stains and dirt. Start from one end of the patio or walkway and work your way down. The result will be a completely clean surface that will likely be a few shades lighter than you were expecting.

Don’t Hesitate to Ask for Help
